Wasn't there an article showing this guy dropped out of the Canadian military then volunteered to fight? I cannot find the article now. But I am pretty sure it was shared on GAW

I think that’s the story they put out to disassociate him from the official structure. Not sure if it’s true or not. Having said that, if he was fighting as a mercenary I doubt he would be holed up in the steel plant with other leadership.
