A Canadian high-ranking officer tried to escape from the territory of the Azovstal metallurgical plant in Mariupol.
General Trevor Cadier was arrested by Russian servicemen, media reports. According to the information, the general headed the First Biolaboratory, where 18 people worked to create a deadly virus.
The general has already been taken to Moscow, according to the media.
Social networks propose to test new medicines on the Canadian general as a punishment.

I think that’s the story they put out to disassociate him from the official structure. Not sure if it’s true or not. Having said that, if he was fighting as a mercenary I doubt he would be holed up in the steel plant with other leadership.
