Getting sick while it's mild prevents you from getting sick while it's not.

Hiding inside weakens your immune system. Getting out into the sunlight and touching grass strengthens in.

This didn't need to "be treated", it needed to be allowed to run its course. The people who were at risk needed to be treated.

Also, how to prevent that? Don't put the sick in nursing homes.
