That same term, "Gray Champion," is used in the book "The Fourth Turning" by Strauss and Howe. Their thesis is that history is not linear, but cyclical. That history repeats itself in approx. 80-year cycles. And each cycle consists of four "turnings" of about 20 to 25 years each. They give tons of examples of this phenomenon going back thousands of years in history. The "Fourth Turning" is always a time of chaos and disruption, and the last one was the Depression-WWII era. They predicted in their book that the West (America in particular) would be in a Fourth Turning from approx. 2005 to 2025.... and look where we are today.
The further predicted that a Gray Champion would rise to lead us out of this period, and I have always thought that Pres. Trump would be that Gray Champion. I am ever hopeful of him doing just that.

I think Putin puts his country first, in stark contrast to our own politicians who are now putting us dead last.
That doesn't mean that Putin is awesome to me. But he does deserve respect.
