Hmm, I never read Frederick Douglass’ book about his own story as a slave, Booker T Washington’s “Up from Slavery” or “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” in public school but am reading all three to my kids this year. Sounds like I’m doing a better job at teaching them the evils of racism and slavery than the public school did.
