The Ultimate History Lesson is a 5-hour journey examining the history, root-causes, and consequences of public schooling. Former New York City and New York State School Teacher of the Year, John Taylor Gatto, illustrates HOW and WHY our public schools are dumbing us down... and what We can do about it. With more than 200 footnotes, and more than 30 classic texts referenced; this 5-hour interview session, memorializing John's research, publications, and life experiences, forms an impeccable family resource and reference library of The Underground History of American Education and its effects on 21st Century America. Each hour focuses on examining the evolution of ideas, which manifest today in the phenomenon of public schooling. By dissecting the history and presenting you with the references, you're left at the end of each hour, with a copious amount of information to digest; from which you can continue your own personal journey of discovery. This interview also includes solutions, documents, and references; asking only that you consider the information - THINK FOR YOURSELF - and communicate with others in order to share a higher-level of awareness. This presentation is offered as a public service thanks to the generosity of the subscribers of the Tragedy and Hope online community, which is an international research and study group, composed of individuals who have screened our productions, and seek to take the next-steps in enacting strategic solutions.
Why doesn't education POSITIVELY affect children instead? Perhaps teach children to follow the laws, be on time, meet schedules and work together to solve problems?
Instead, we have anti-white racism being taught along with LGBTQ studies and sex education for kindergartners.
Also, "youth subjugation" means to bring youth under control through domination or repression. Schools aren't bringing ANYONE under control. Instead, they are creating self-centered whiny out-of-control youth who blame everyone else for their problems and feel that the world owes them a living.
The school is the factory, the children are the product. It's not a factory that produces well-rounded young adults with critical thinking skills and knowledge of how the world works. The factory produces worker drones, fodder for war, and minds ripe for further indoctrination in the university system.
exactly, used to tell my administrators this^. especially when they would talk about money that we might miss out on😡 a wicked system, don't even think I can watch the videos above/traumatic what they've done, forcing us to learn their crap curriculum so we can be better slaves.
Summerhill and Sudbury both have a long history of turning children -- including in many (but not all) cases "problem" children -- into emotionally healthy and productive adults -- exactly the kind of people we would all want as neighbors.
Yet most "educators", including those in private schools, wouldn't DREAM of giving such freedom to children. It's hardly surprising that this world is as unfree and emotionally twisted as it is.

When the best and most celebrated teacher in America says the whole education system is worthless and walks away, you should listen.
Gatto is a treasure, and his writings deserve a much wider audience. Thanks for posting.
Richard Groves Ultimate History Lesson with John Gatto is also a classic.
I push him every chance I get!!

Sudbury Valley Schools on the east coast of the United States provide a model for what an actual, healthy youth experience can look like: https://hvsudburyschool.com/the-sudbury-model-of-education/
Summerhill School in England (founded in 1921), which Sudbury was modeled after (except that Sudbury is not a boarding school).
Looks cool, thanks for sharing!
