I could understand the idea of a cart. But everybody has to go through some kind of metal detector search before entering, so a gun is doubtful in this case.

Maybe part of the staffing is in on this. Just like sometimes federal agents take bribes to let crimes occur. Maybe part of the gang took a security job just so the rest of the crew would have eyes and ears and a pass as they took the victim out the gate.
