Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross. — Colossians 2:14
There are a lot of times in life that you are blamed for something. I remember being blamed for things when I was younger. There were times that someone would do something, but blame me for it. Sometimes, I ended up having to deal with the punishment because there was no evidence that I did not do it.
We see that play out in court rooms across the world. Accusations are made against someone and they must defend themselves. Sometimes those cases are the word of one person versus the word of another. Other times, there may be evidence that helps support the accusation. The evidence supports the accusation and can lead to a conviction.
Perhaps you have never found yourself facing the accusations in this world, but we have all faced the accusation of the sin in our lives. Scripture quickly points this out. Through our reading, we can read the words that all have sinned and fallen short. We also read that no one is righteous on their own. No one can claim freedom from sin in their lives on their own merits.
We are all sinners. We all have fallen short. Not one single person is perfect. That is the accusation. If we look at the evidence, we can agree. Our very nature is that of sin. Our body desires sin and the pleasures of the world. We do not have the power in ourselves to overcome that.
That’s why we can all be so thankful for this verse. Jesus Christ, through His death on the cross, blotted out all of the accusations against us. All of the evidence against us was taken away. He took all of our sin and nailed it to His cross. He took all that on Himself, so that we could be set free. For Christians, we can rejoice in the freedom that can only be found through Jesus Christ. We should want to share that experience with others so they too can experience freedom from sin. If you don’t know that freedom, you can learn more about it and experience it today.
