Yep. I thought that way for decades. I equated hockey players to ice skaters who twirled and jumped high. Nine times out of ten those figure skaters were light footed so I just thought hockey players fell right in step. This year I began watching the Blues and really took an interest in the play. Quite quickly I figured out these dudes aren't faggs. They are real men who hit like a ton of bricks and take a punishment into the boards. Doing it all on skates to boot. My respect for the sport and the men who play the sport certainly has risen. Even the toughness in the NFL cannot match what NFL players endure. Heck, I've seen guys take a stick to the lip or nose, go off the ice to get a compress and within 2-3 minutes they are back on the ice. In the NFL a player would be carted off the field and then maybe come back in a bench warming position. Yea, It's been hard to understand some aspects of hockey, but I certainly am learning. Plus it's a lot easier to follow the action now, after learning where the puck goes after it's hit into the corner. Goalies are the toughest players, continually being hit with a puck going 90mph. No way I'd want that position, no matter what it pays. They are crazy good.
