Not really directly related to any current events, but I was wondering how much the federal government was raking in on gasoline tax. From the government site:

federal gas tax is 18.4 cents/gal:

we consumed 135 billion gallons of gasoline in the US last year:

Some simple math:

0.184 * 135 = 24.84 billion dollars in federal gasoline tax last year.

I've always wanted someone to ask the politicians when they say they need an infrastructure bill for bridges and roads, which I assume will mean they want to raise taxes, "where did all the federal gas tax money go?". Tell them "You don't need any more money. If you're going to raise taxes to pay for bridges and roads then remove the federal gas tax.".
