I thank my father for his sacrifice and bravery and for me being here today.

Drafted at age 19; Army; 1st Wave; Combat Engineer; Omaha Beach; fought in 3 major battles. My mother and he eloped when he got his papers in the mail. She was 16. She didn't see him for over 2 years. The marriage lasted. How did they do it? Determination, faith, hard work, and love.
