Sounds vampiric at the end there haha.

Yeah I've not been pulled over ever (crazy I know) so it's not been a thing for me but have friends who summited on location and got barely a DUI. Attorney said the same thing, make them take you in. They can't technically charge you without proof and that hour or so may be enough time to get off.
