JEREMIAH G. HAMILTON
HON. JERROLD NADLER OF NEW YORK IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Thursday, February 28, 2019
Mr. NADLER.
Madam Speaker, as we celebrate Black History Month, I rise today to commemorate the life of Jeremiah G. Hamilton, the first black millionaire in the United States, whose story has been absent from the history books. I have the honor of representing the district in which Mr. Hamilton lived and
worked.
Born in the West Indies in 1807, Mr. Hamilton made his way to New York in 1828 and began amassing his fortune by selling stocks to both black and white entrepreneurs. He was touted as being astute in successfully predicting the markets and became a prominent financier and businessman on Wall Street in
the pre-Civil War era.
Mr. Hamilton defied many conventions of his time as he rose to the top of the business world. He owned stock of railroad companies on whose trains he was not legally allowed to ride. He married a white woman named Eliza
Morris and had a close relationship with his friend Benjamin Day, who was the publisher of the Sun Newspaper. He took on titans of industry, including battling Cornelius Vanderbilt over control of the Accessory Transit Company until he got a settlement. In fact, in Vanderbilt’s obituary it is stated, ‘‘There was only one man who ever fought the Commodore to the end, and that was Jeremiah
Hamilton . . . the Commodore respected him.’’
However, Mr. Hamilton faced the horrors of the rampant racism and violence against African-Americans in the mid-19th century. In the 1830s, insurance companies blackballed him and refused to underwrite his business ventures. During the draft riots in 1863, white men unsuccessfully sought to lynch Mr. Hamilton in his own home.
Jeremiah G. Hamilton died in 1875, leaving behind an estate of $2 million, which would be around $45 million today.
It is vital that the history of America reflects
the lives of all Americans, and I am proud to help share some of the lost history from the 10th Congressional District. Madam Speaker, I ask all of my colleagues
to join me in recognizing not only the life of Jeremiah G. Hamilton but the dedicated work of both the Committee to Commemorate Jeremiah G. Hamilton and historian Shane White to create a permanent place in history for the
first African-American millionaire.
The Committee to Commemorate Jeremiah G. Hamilton was established in February 2018 by community activists, including Dr. Sam D. Albert, Hon. Louise Dankberg, Hon. Alan J. Gerson, Gail Green, Barbara Guinan, Greg Lambert, Esq., Christine Merritt, Hon. Daisy Paez, Mark P. Thompson, Leona Zeplin and the Committee’s Co-Chairs Dolores Leito and Hon. Michelle D. Winfield.
In military terminology, a demonstration is an attack or show of force on a front where a decision is not sought, made with the aim of deceiving the enemy.[1]
An example of a demonstration in the American Civil War was at the Battle of Gettysburg where, on July 2, 1863, General Robert E. Lee ordered Lt. Gen. Richard S. Ewell to stage a demonstration against Culp's Hill on the Union right flank while Lt. Gen. James Longstreet launched the main attack against the Union left flank.
A related diversionary maneuver, the feint, involves actual contact with the enemy, unlike a demonstration.
Ewell only being recently promoted to division commander due to Jackson's death, and being cautious after a long day of marching and fighting, didn't take Culp's Hill. After the bullshit Lost Causists scapegoating Longstreet (the only sane division commander in the room), Ewell is next most to be blamed for this "blunder" resulting in the loss at Gettysburg. But the reality is that it was Lee's fault in the same way that caused the JEB Stuart fiasco.... Lee didn't give clear orders. Jackson somehow had the ability to understand Lee and make things work. But with him gone, nobody else could understand Lee the same way. Lee absolutely sucked at the administrative and organizational level... battlefield commander, good, but as an overall army commander? Yikes.
The Day 2 attacks on the Round Tops SHOULD have been a demonstration while Longstreet, as he advocated, could sweep around farther to the southeast and move towards Washington. But I digress... Lee was an arrogant egomaniac...
Shame this scene was cut from the theatrical version...
Its about Gregg Phillips publicly calling out Bennie Thompson who is hiding behind the speech and debate clause of the Constitution to slander (and when Thompson's lies are printed in the Congressional Record they are constitutionally protected libel) people who are not in the room to defend themselves or cross examine the gaslighted witnesses Thompson parades before the television cameras.
At this point Phillips has basically libeled Thompson by calling him a seditionist, an accomplice to murder, a racist and a thug.
(There is a subcontext connected to the Heard v Depp case... but that is too far afield to fully develop at this time. If you did not watch the whole trial it would take a book to explain it... just keep the general idea of a narrative connection in the back of your mind for now... remember... no conspiracies but no coincidences either.)
Philips is demonstrating... both attacking (in writing for now, verbally soon) and by doing so showing force, in my opinion, to draw fire from Thompson and the J6 Committee.
It is also why Phillips released this map detailing mules heading for Atlanta for the 2020 election...
"The organization was involved in numerous controversial issues. For example, it attempted to assist Oceanhill-Brownsville area in Brooklyn to secede from the United States during the 1968 conflict over control of public schools. Additionally, it was involved with shootouts at New Bethel Baptist Church in 1969 (during the one-year anniversary of the founding) and another in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1971. (It had announced that the capital of the Republic would be in Hinds County, Mississippi, located on a member's farm.) In the confrontations, law-enforcement officials were killed and injured. Organization members were prosecuted for the crimes."
Also in my opinion, this, from my comment quoting Jack Anderson about Senators, holds true about certain Representatives as well...
"I stated my basic theory of senatorial behavior: senators were great bullies but poor fighters; they are occupational cowards, or rather, victims of excessive caution. They could be fearsome infighters when the public wasn't watching or when their victim was a pushover. but they would run from a donnybrook of uncertain outcome, for they were in the popularity business."

On a RAINY SATURDAY AFTERNOON IN FLORIDA...I have just read THE BEST writing on the diatribe of Bernie Thompson and it is a WONDERFUL Piece that SHOULD BE TAUGHT and EMULATED where possible.
Turn the TABLES on them and see how far the nefarious individuals get...
Thank you!!!!!!!!!! I will hoist my goblet to you from whence I shall drink from it!!!!!!
Gotcha, know there's always far deeper meaning to this stuff and you're on top of it. I see Gettysburg and just got excited since that's where my historical expertise comes in 😂
I am pretty much convinced NFD thought, among other things that the people pulling Biden's strings were threatening civil war if Trump (Q) did not allow the steal.
Hang on to that deep antebelllum, bellum, and post war reconstruction south. Got a gut feeling it will be invaluable as history gets rewritten as the gloves come off and our whitewashed political history is sand blasted.
Indeed I remember NFD's comments re: Gettysburg, Devils Den more specifically. Battle was the high water mark, the precipice of the Rebellion of 1860. Had Lee gone around to left, good chance the Union might well have been split forever. Thank God for Lee's arrogant stupidity, and the heroism of Joshua Chamberlain, Winfield Scott Hancock, George Meade and the boys in blue.
Have you been following all of the Gettysburg Park closures for maintenance and restoration work over the past year? Coincidence?
[They] have been threatening the civil war card since Trump took office in 2016, but ramped it up to unprecedented levels in 2020. Even though it wasn't as obvious or bloody as they predicted, this "cold" civil war has been going on since January 2020, and like with 1860 it would appear that the Union (Patriots) keeps getting bloodied, but the Rebel enemy is expending resources that cannot be replaced. We have an endless supply of 🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸 though... 🇺🇸
Nice usage of bellum... have you seen the most recent John Wick film, Parabellum? Next edition in the series to come out in 2023... the cliffhanger from Parabellum is that the fight back against the High Table will be the plot.
Lee has always been something of a bizarre case. Mexican War hero. Career military man. Family legacy of 1776. Offered command to put down the Rebellion but rejects it because he couldn't fight against his "home"... and yet there were plenty of southerners who honored their oath to defend the USA and the Constitution, like fellow Virginian George Henry Thomas. Was Lee truly a committed white supremacist slaver? I don't think so. He was more Jeffersonian than say, Alexander Stevens. Is it possible Lee was just used as a pawn by the Rebel puppet masters?
His command of the southern department (Carolinas, Georgia, Florida) and efforts to fortify defenses was fairly well done... Essentially kept Union forces stuck on Hilton Head and in Beaufort, away from Savannah and Charleston for far longer than they should have been. He wasn't a complete idiot, in fact did have a fairly wise military mind. So why then did he adopt such stupid strategies when in command of the Army of Northern VA and then of all Confederate forrces? Antietam was a terrible mistake, but then to do it again but worse at Gettysburg? Constantly refusing to reinforce the Western Theater where Grant made fools of the carousel of terrible Rebel commanders... taking units from the deep south for use in the ANV, as opposed to defending their home states of TN, MS, AR, AL, GA etc...
Dare I suggest it was almost as if Lee was intentionally trying to destroy any chance of Confederate success... he snatched defeat from the grasp of victory...
Ah yes, the very important secret plans that happened to be wrapped around cigars and very easily picked up by the enemy. Who'd be dumb enough to risk such info falling into enemy hands? There's also a lot of evidence of spy rings and intelligence gathering on both sides. It's quite possible Lee could have been in communication with anyone and everyone.
Remember Trump's story about showing the Taliban leader Abdul a picture of his (Abdul's) house after warning him not to kill any more American soldiers.
The Trump speech when he told this story has been deleted from you tube for violating community standards...
LOL ... anyone with an archived link to this speech please time stamp and put in reply.
Thompson's showing the clip of Ivanka was no different.
Ever see videos of the captives just before the Taliban would cut off their heads.
Ivanka's interview (remote) video clip was selected because it is reminiscent of this kind of image... which is now being shown on the MSM and in left Social Media ad nauseum.
This has absolutely no teeth. There won't be any real trials, arrests, fines, imprisonment etc. If this is a Dem led effort to sway voters, they are delusional. More people likely watched Depp/Heard than will tune in for this lunacy... it's basically the WNBA on hormones
