I did because I'm a southerner. When Linwood Holton was elected governor of Virginia in 1969, he was the first GOP governor since Reconstruction. That's because all the Confederates were prohibited from voting after the Civil War, so Republicans took over all the elected posts. Then the Dems were able to take over and for the next, what, 90 years or so, they locked up most of the elected posts.
