The first black republican congressmen came to Washington DC just a few years after the Civil War ended in 1865! They came from Southern states.The first black Democrat congressman was elected to Congress around..............1932. Around the time they began to "hide" their longtime bigotry and realized they needed their votes, any way they could get them.
