Yes, it's a dilemma, and one I ponder at times, but I don't dwell on it. First, I will not be the one who raises my first in anger, but such delicate subjects as my enemy's dignity will not be part of the equation if I'm ever forced to defend myself, my family, or my home.
Or my state and country...anyone who declares war on our way of life and our values has already surrendered his claim "dignity" in my humble opinion.
I hate it that pretty soon, good people are going to have to do bad things. But we are past the point where we can debate or vote our way out of this mess. [They] have stolen our votes, silenced our dissent, and threatened our very lives.
When TSHTF... exactly what "dignity" do you think they should have? Maybe there is a viable position that allows us to fight this battle in full and then allow any survivors their dignity.
I'll leave that up to the philosophers.
Bury them properly.
