I probably should delete this post after I probably answered my question. I travel by Cherry Point a lot going to the NC coast. I was so excited when I saw the 1776 flag. Anyone know if this flag has always flown on the Marine or any military base? I was hoping it was a sign of hope for all us patriots.
Upon further research I’ve learned the Marines were established in 1776 by John Adams.

Marine Corps was created in 1775 in a bar called Tun Tavern in Philadelphia.
