If you still have the PC I suggest you try installing linux and checking it out, been using linux mint exclusively(no dual boot) for some 8 months now, it's pretty awesome.
Mint is a good starting point.
You can run pretty much any game using wine (mighty facilitated by using proton on steam, or just lutris)
Using Linux you really feel like you have full control of your PC.
