Not just the South. People in New England were marrying cousins in the 1600s and 1700s. That's why so many people today trace back to the same New England families. There are always cousin marriages in areas without a lot of people.

Fren,as I am not American anon (I am from Poland) I don't have to know all details...

I just mentioned place most famous for this "strong familly connections" - simply like Utah => Mormons, Texas => Guns and Ranches, Louisiana => Swamps and Aligators etc.

Don't even try to explain it to me as I not try to explain you for example the differences between Switzerland, Lichtenstein,Austria and Germany ;) If you associate my country with Pierogies and Kraków or Czechs with Beer and Prague it is probably good enough ;)
