His bike pedals have the toe cages that hold your shoe on the pedals when riding. You slide your shoe in and they stay that way until you pull your foot out. When he came to a stop, he managed to pull his left foot out and set it on the ground to steady himself and then it looks like he forgot his right shoe was trapped in the pedal cage and when he tried to put that foot on the ground he just lost his balance and fell over sideways.
I know that. It was stupid to have those for a feeble old fart. But I never saw him look down or saw his right foot. What I saw was him with his left foot on the ground and him just tipping over.
