My family knows how I think and feel about holidays. They try to explain them away. Where does the word come from? It creates division, high expectations, low gratification, financial strain and serves no good use to anything but the dollar. Many have been created by the cabal, congress, advertisers, but none we celebrate have been created by God. That to me says everything. I don’t need a holiday or set day to say thank you or I love you, it should be done without being told to or forced to or pressured to.

I enjoy holidays in the ways they were originally intended to be enjoyed. With family, good food, good cheer, and rest. And for Thanksgiving and Christmas I beautify my home. I don't get into the commercialization of any holiday. For Christmas, I make gifts for my family, and I don't buy for anyone else.
It's like anything in life. Holidays are what you make them. If you allow yourself to get bogged down in the pressure to buy expensive gifts or cards for everyone, then you'll start to have negative feelings. I don't watch TV, but I avoid any kind of commercials (radio, YouTube) during Christmas because I hate how they've tried to turn it into a corporate holiday full of only secular music, political messages, and dollar signs. Otherwise, I'd probably hate it, too. And Mother's and Father's Days have gotten just as bad, especially now that advertisers are catering to a specific agenda. Avoid the advertising and hype and enjoy the true spirit of these days.
