What is this thread all about?
Just a place for general discussion. A place to unload whats on your mind and talk about anything - personal, health, help needed, achievements, daily highs and daily lows, theories, predictions and what have you.
Does not need to be Q related.
A Lord of the Realm, writings translated into 35 languages and 65 million books sold, and I never heard of him! Can't help but admire the British and their unique way with English, as long as it touches on philosophy and doesn't take itself too seriousl: https://www.litcharts.com/lit/the-hitchhiker-s-guide-to-the-galaxy/characters/zaphod-beeblebrox.
That's your loss..I try to introduce Terry Pratchett to people...under the seeming comic characters you see the author to be clued up on absolutely everything...he even has one of his characters...Time...talk about the universe being created and recreated however many times a second..I can't keep figures in my head...a book about printing money and how it works...vampires...one even mentioned adrenachrome and we are talking a long while ago this was written...religion ..has his characters say no can't be any good not enough blood..when having benefits of worshipping the latest god explained....which shows his deep understanding of just how bloodthirsty religions are!
In fact on that topic Finland may well get the bible banned for its incitement to violence and hatred. A case last year of a Lutheran pastor's wife being prosecuted for her stance on sex which she erroneously believes the omnipotent omnipresent transcendental God of all has said deserves hatred and violence.
Yahweh in fact is said to have said this but as the elohim ../ aliens he was one of..their sexual conduct was anything but commendable...girls for three years and one day ok for sex. That's in the records. Young girls and boy prostitute's lived outside the tent/temple where yahweh lived.
also the religious Jewish custom of circumcisions and the rabbi sucking the blood from the babies penis. Terry pratchett character would I am sure think that meets the criteria of a proper religion..along with eat my flesh ..drink my blood of course!
Thanks for the introduction, I do love fiction and agree it has its place in life. We all need something fun to do or watch or read right? Perhaps Religion is just a living story, an answer that appeases the masses, entertainment if you like... or perhaps it is nefarious no matter the intention of its creator. IS it the choice of the writer or the reader? Who chooses who first?
Maybe Sir Terry is a genuinely good person, who only wants to entertain and teach people goodness... I don't claim to have the definitive answers, but I know enough to allow a best selling author's publisher and fans probably don't give much of a shit how much Truth or insight or hope anyone finds in his publications. All things being equal I am too old to learn anything truly ground breaking from that frumpy old turd. No offense I watched half of this talk and couldn't fan boy my through it.
In short, he might have a lot of wisdom, his works might be the next book of the bible. His characters might inspire civilizations BUT what is it that is coming that nothing can stop? It seems to me the world is currently trapped by the games that men and countries play with one another. Can any event truly change the world or enough minds and hearts enough to change it?
Ashlanddog has covered NCSWIS from more practical angles if you prefer check out his threads on the Law Of War: does National Council of Statewide Interoperability Coordinators sound more meaningful to you? Maybe Terry can write us a book about it.
Sorry..did you really call Terry pratchett a frumpy old turd????che woulrchave had a good laugh at that!!
I only know how well read he was because I am ...I am sure lots of his readers don't get his messages...a bit like Q really. ..you have to know to know
Che? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Che_Guevara?
But ya he looks like every old career writer, uncomfortable in his own skin! But he seems to be atypical in other aspects; never content to finish a story apparently, especially a best selling fan favorite.
Much like that bastard who started to write the Wheel of Time, then expanded it, then took a break to finish some other books he was contracted to... then basically died and let some other prick finish his spaghetti incident... money makes the world go round, writers just regurgitate whatever the hell sells IMO. Its systemic really, no one to blame... hate the game not the player... ETC.
Is there a book or a series of books that you recommend, what messages do you feel are worthy of trying to find and understand? I mean I love fiction but Time is finite and the mountain of shit just keeps getting larger, ya mean?
You seem lacking in the humour department?
teaching people while making them laugh and have them not even know the lesson they are learning seems to be something you can't relate to.by what you say
Terry's serious books were beyond me....
