It seems convenient that just as the world is blowing up inflation wise, that they can just blame it on Putin's price hike. While in the US it's more of a reach, in Europe they can definitely just blame it on Putin.

The longer this goes on, the harder the fall. There you have the reason, the strategic reason why the Ukraine war is making gains by small steps.

How does the panic induced by the abysmal performance in Ukraine play into the mid-terms?

It is all related. Remember Helsinki? The ball is in your court now? Putin told where he is at, what is needed to alleviate things. And Trump went home with a soccer ball. Trump time? You bet.
