Well, see DOJ, trying to "show reason" to a hostile state is a futile exercise. In fact, implicit in the Second Amendment (and throughout the Constitution as a whole) is the underlying idea that IT IS NONE OF THE GOVERNMENT'S BUSINESS how we conduct our lives. Speech is protected, religious freedom is protected, assembly with whomever we choose is protected, etc.
In essence, the Constitution is a list of things the Government CANNOT do to free citizens. But the totalitarians of our age see the Constitution as a speed bump, a barrier, to what they want to impose on us all.
