I have continually drilled into my kids, I have 5 other kids older than my special needs child, that there are those who don’t think Sam deserves to live because he isn’t like everyone else and can’t perform the way some thinks he should. I’ve told them they need to stand up for them always and demand that their lives are valued and protected. The end goal I believe is to eradicate them. I spoke with a nurse from the local children’s hospital during covid who gave me the list of kids slated to get the jab first. She was appalled because she says it wasn’t kids sick but kids like my son. She was at the precipice of how we feel about vaccines. She said “I’m a nurse, I know vaccines don’t cause autism…but I think vaccines cause autism and this list seems like kids they would like to get rid of” something along those lines . Just a random lady who thanked my husband and I for not wearing masks into the grocery store and talking with us about her fears.
Yup, my daughter moved schools for the first time in 2019 right before covid. She was in 3rd grade. Her teacher told us she was the favorite of the Down syndrome girl in their class, every time she got to pick a helper she picked my daughter. My husband met her parents at the daddy daughter dance and apparently she had talked to them about my daughter. My husband explained we also have a child who is special needs and her parents had an aha moment as to why our daughter was so good with her and made her feel normal. He is a blessing to the whole family that’s for sure.

One thing that those with special needs teaches the rest of us is compassion. That is so under-rated.
