7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
This passage describes, not a reprieve from evil necessarily, but that there is a restrainer that will prevent the lawless one from being revealed. That restrainer is Spirit filled Christians who are standing in the way and preventing the beast system from taking over the world. The enemy will not be able to fully have their way on the Earth until the Lord takes us out of the way by rapture.
