We are made of star stuff, literally. Not just carbon: the first stars had to explode to make all the heavier elements available. Carbon is really a very light one, and we are evolved now as part of a universe full of heavier elements. It's really a breathtaking idea. However, I think St. John had the spiritual numerology in mind.
