Here's one thing when it comes to looters, at least.

You don't have to be proficient to scare the shit out of them; they don't know that you missed a shot, they just know you shot.

Honestly most of them are probably such pussies that they'd run the moment they knew you were armed.

Always made no sense to me that brandishing is illegal; you would think deterring someone from attacking you without violence would be the goal.
