Prayers requested - Staying the night in the hospital with my son.
✝️ Prayer Request 🕊️
My middle son is a teen. He has been through so much in his short life. Stroke at birth causing cerebral palsy, rare epileptic conditiion cured by brain surgery many years ago.
And today blood sugar was through the roof. He somehow contracted diabetes, likely type 1. He is not overweight, he is pure blood.
He basically has ptsd from all the procedures and doctor visits. And now he may have to get insulin shots multiple times a day.
It hurts me so bad to watch him go through so much.
Please pray for him.
Thank you.
I am going to try and get some sleep now, will read through any comments in the morning.
I am a T1D. Once you get used to it (big learning curve), it's not so bad. I was diagnosed at the age of 25, a few years after getting the Anthrax vax. You guys will learn what to do, and he will be just fine. Insulin won't hurt you. The best thing you can do is continue to live life like you always have. Learn the carb intakes of his favorite foods. Document what works. Then cue in on the patterns. Don't be afraid of sweet food, just avoid the ones when a lot of highly concentrated added sugar. Other than that, keep him eating whatever he wants, being sure to count for the carbs with the insulin. Also, those glucose tablets work pretty good in an emergency low. But, if he starts to feel low starting to come on, then a perfect go-to is a granola bar, or a fruit cup. Try to get something that is between 15-25 carbs. Anyway, I'm sure you guys are getting tons of info thrown at you all at once. Just remember that you guys will learn how this works, and he will become a master at taking care of himself. Just be patient.
Prayers for you guys.
I'm also a T1, and second the advice. (Great summary Shipwreck, by the way). I'll add that when you have time, Dr Faustman at the Faustman lab is the best advocate for curing it.
You don't hear about too many supposed cures very often. Ill check it out. I always take stuff like this with a big grain of salt. I'm sure the cure is out there... but, it's hard to not be skeptical. Thank you, Mr_A.
I've been following her for years. I've seen multiple hypes come and go. Check out her academic published papers around March-May of 2020. Would've been front page regular news if not for Covid. (OTOH, it's so good she probably would've been killed, if they hadn't been riding Covid so hard.) The whole pathology, and it's only like 4 pages: totally readable.
Thank you.
