i agree, but wonder if it's supposed to be this way; using oil, etc. or is there something beyond, even better?

Hemp. It's a miracle plant! I don't think you can make gas and jet fuel from it, yet, but it's certainly got tons of potential and actual already realized applicabilities. Oil is super impressive though.

If you want a fun rabbit hole start investigating about the idea that hydrocarbons are not fossil fuels but are a remewable resource. Coal miners reports of finding arrowheads and such in the coal layers was very fascinating.

New book (May 2022) on the moral (and common sense) case for increasing use of fossil fuels. I'm only 3% in and about to start a chapter section titled How to Know When the "Experts" Are Wrong. Well-written and clear-minded so far.
