Free program that send an alert whenever an aircraft squawks a 7700 emergency -- which can be declared for a number of reasons, including pilot or other crew medical emergency.
I get typically three to four such alerts per day; have been told by someone here (in a post where I learned about the app) that BV -- Before "Vax" -- the rate was more like three or four a MONTH.
I once heard that pilots for the major carriers often each fly only to a handful of cities, with little variation. It probably keeps the safety records great, due to familiarity with the route and the airports. But probably took away one of the major perks, of getting to see far away countries and cities. Plus they used to allow visitors in the cockpit (before 2001), giving pilots a bit of celebrity status and inspiration for kids to become a pilot. Not these days...
There is a shortage of all positions in the aviation industry, including military. My nephew is in Army bootcamp right now, on his way to becoming an Apache A&P Mechanic.
It's going to be a while before I take a flight anywhere.

I'd become a pilot if they wanted to cover training. I may be too old, though.
