Well, yeah. There have been multiple extinction events on this planet and they have happened in regular intervals. The most well known being the meteor showers that wiped the dinos. We're ripe for a next one, and when it happens, some people will undoubtedly survive in their bunkers or waiting in outer space. I'm not saying it'll happen tomorrow or anything but I don't think we have another 1000 years.

I would say that the most well known is the flood but we're probably (definitely) on different wavelengths.
