EV are kind of cool. But at current tech level. They’re mostly suited as a glorified taxi ferrying people around the semi-controlled environments of a particularly large corporate or educational campuses. And maybe driving around your immediate local town.
Charging stations still aren’t particularly common over large portions of the country so anymore then that and you run the risk of being caught in the middle of bumfuck nowhere with a dead battery.
...could you imagine planning a trip across the country in an EV...
...having to chart your course by connecting the dots with charging stations....
There are apps out there doing the job for you.
I currently drive the new Hyundai Ioniq 5, and I’m taking the car across Europe this summer.
The high speed charging network is placed all over the continent, and I’ll “only” have to stop for 15 minutes every 2-2,5hours of autobahn driving.
It’s not for everybody, but it suits me perfectly, as my dog isn’t a very found passenger, and needs regular breaks when we’re driving.
My first leg would be south of Sweden to south of Germany, and that 10 hour leg is about 1,5hours longer in an EVthen in an ICE.
