Negative. Cornyn was on ballot in 2020. Senate serves 6 year terms. We're stuck with him for a while.

OTOH, 3 years should be enough time to find and vet someone to take the seat.

John Cornyn is resigning because he is too toxic for Texas. He betrayed the constitution in favor of gun control.
