Reading through these comments is, in a way, refreshing. I'm an oldie, but not a retard. When I got my library card at age 6, I began asking questions about what I read in the papers. About Korea. About how two communist giants fought the US to a standstill. I asked, "---, the US just a few years ago obliterated the most powerful military ever assembled in the Pacific. That military had already defeated China and made the west Pacific an empire. How did a defeated nation fight us to a standstill?" The answer, invariably, "When you grow up, you'll understand."
I did. It was a UN war. And I opposed Vietnam; got drafted in 1965, went through electronics ASW and aircrew/SAR and all that crap. One and a half WestPacs and one year of CSAR in the waters off Korea (Pueblo) and Vietnam (mostly North SAR, rescue services in North Vietnam).
But I notice that the main purpose of Vietnam isn't mentioned. You should do some research on this, not that it makes any difference to know it at this point. What, exactly, led to the incursion in Nam? Why? Don't go for standard answers like "domino effect". Don't use the dates on the web: many are flat out wrong.
The clowns were hard at work supplying drugs produced in SE Asia. The drugs were brought back, to a great extent, in coffins. Coffins aren't inspected. The drugs went to inner cities, black communities and so on, coincident with LBJ's Great Society, which destroyed every thriving black/Mexican community by welfare, destruction of family, and bankrupting of businesses.
Nobody noticed.
Nobody noticed because the flower children (products of mkultra etc) and the Vietnam war. The propaganda from 'trusted' anchors like Crankcase turned the older generation AND the younger generation against those who were military. On one side, because we were baby killers, on another because we were "losing". Precious few back in "The World" had the faintest idea of the truth. Look at the map of where agent orange was used. Think of tactics. Now say it was intended that the US win. EVERY battle was in South Vietnam: you cannot defeat an enemy if you are ALWAYS defensive.
Every war since II has been the same.
I'd certainly enjoy seeing a lot of people hang for what they've done.
BTW, in my interactions with a lot of soldiers/Marines/AF, I never saw a lighter embossed with that.
