i find that the lack of a metric for past years as a point for comparison makes me suspicious. while i like to believe that we are arresting more of them, i want a data point that makes the argument before i share something like this more widely because the first question that will be asked is: "how many usually get arrested in a year?"

Same. Don't get me wrong I ain't complaining. I want these headlines up all day long no matter WHAT the previous numbers are.
But I am curious as well what those numbers are.
I have a feeling the number goes up every year as the state gains increasing access to our personal data for better or for worse.
