Meanwhile, the Russians continue to advance, to liberate cities, and consolidate territory and the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to lose men and materiel that are not easy to replace. A funny sort of embarrassment. The kind that will end with Ukraine losing and the West realizing that it has poured treasure into a sewer.
A war that was supposed to take 4 days is about to enter it's 6th month and Russia controls less territory than they did in March. Since turning their focus entirely on the Eastern side of Ukraine 2 months ago they've managed to advance about 10 miles... at the cost of thousands of lives and despite outnumbering the Ukrainians nearly 10-1 at the outset.
4 days? You are dreaming. Show me the piece of paper with the schedule and Putin's signature. This is just disinformation. Typical West: somebody dreams up a "should have been" set of objectives, and then scores Russia poorly against them. Can't fault Russia for following its own plan, not some armchair analyst's plan.
Since March, Russia has taken various major cities: Melitopol, Mariupol, etc. The situation map shows the line of contact systematically moving west. The territory behind it has been consolidated. There was a whole lot of liberation and pest extermination going on. The core of the Ukrainian army has been gutted (about 70,000 deaths) and the exchange ratio is about 10 to 1, Ukraine vs. Russia. Ukraine is persisting in a futile exercise at the cost of tens of thousands of Ukrainian lives and enormous battle damage. Ukrainian morale is collapsing. Troops are refusing to enter combat with grossly inadequate weapons. Their field commanders are sneaking away, leaving them abandoned. They are choosing to be sent to military prison, rather than proceed into battle.
I've been hearing this same "Ukraine army is getting slaughtered, about to collapse... blah blah blah" on hear for half a year. There were people here in March, swearing, that Russia had already taken Kiev and that the Ukrainian government was hiding in Warsaw. Meanwhile Russia has gained but a few miles in the East since March and saw their army routed in the North.
Russia's state media was positive it would last weeks if not days for a total victory, that is the media who's messaging only gets approved by the Kremlin.
And now those same Russian state media sources, instead of predicting victory, are making excuses for the massive failure of their military. "Mutants!" It's laughable.
This has been a complete embarrassment.
The Russian military is a joke. Exposed as a bastion of corruption full of ill equipped, ill trained, conscripts. The government there pumps money into tanks only to get explosive tin cans, while some Russian billionaire uses the money to build a yacht... and throws Putin his share of the proceeds.
Joke country, joke army, can't even subjugate a small nation on it's own border.
And good, because Russia is a total dictatorship and Putin has openly touted his continued belief in the USSR. The more Russia suffers the better for the free world.
Putin is full of shit. This is him trying to save face after 5 months of his military embarrassing itself.
The idea that peace was agreed to 4 months ago but the news is just coming out now is fucking hilarious.

Yes, this has been a complete embarrassment.
