I was on Lexapro in the past, and it probably saved my life. I have been off it for a few years now, bc the side effects were annoying. I am in a better frame of mind now and able to deal with things without it so far, but there were times I truly needed it
Hoping to be able to step off of it in the next year or so, but with the state of the world + my chaotic surroundings + my predisposition to de depressed anyway + several family and close friends and pets dying in the last year, I had to get that medicinal crutch. Made me completely sexually dysfunctional for a bit but I backed down one dosage level and all that seems to be working again.
Yeah, I literally wouldn’t be here anymore if I wouldn’t have taken it when I really was in a bad spot. It is necessary for some people at some times. I don’t believe it’s good to just stay on it permanently like the doctors tell you though. Take it while you need to, change things in your life that are stressing you (or change how you view them), and then very slowly wean off. That’s what I did, and I feel great. I just honestly had to adopt the mindset that no matter what, I’ll be ok. I was always so worried about what if this bad thing happens or what if that happens- it was literally driving me crazy. I got a new job (less stress), built up a bank account (less stress due to more financial security), cut out toxic friends and men, etc. just took steps to fix what was bothering me deep down. I’m right as rain now. If anything comes up in the future and I start feeling like I want to die, I will def go back on the medicine for awhile and then restart the process of fixing my mindset enough to wean off again.
Life is full of ups and downs and we just have to do our best to deal with it however we can
