Many of those affected were lured with out right false advertising, promising them bank accounts that were safe and risk free, some with interest rates as high as 4%.
The reality was that many of them were opened as "investment" accounts, meaning they arent covered by any financial protection laws that covers regular bank accounts.
When people started protesting, all the CCP had to offer was "make sure you read all the terms, research the institution, and make sure you arent opening a false account" even tho for many of these companies, it was impossible to find out this info (or the fact many consumers only used the web side of things)
The CCP has sided with the banks on this, and only recently offered any sort of "compensation", that being around 7k USD, when many had life savings in the 6 figures in these banks.
