If our bodies are not fighting germs, I dont get why we have the immune system we have.

For instance, why do we have all the different ways in which to create antibodies, that bind to organic things, not chemicals (as toxins would be) ?

Is there an alternate immune theory that can consistently explains how our immune system works against toxins?
