Why wouldn't it all collapse? What else could it do with the direction ite all going? Shall we not suffer for our freedom? How will we ever appreciate freedom or safeguard it again without real and intense pain? How will we grow if not by rebuilding? How can we love our neighbors if we never reach out? Desperation cures many many things. Have faith enough of us will stand and lead in rebuilding so our children and grandchildren can be better people. Material stuff is meaningless and part of the system. Survival will require cooperation. I see the wisdom even if I hate it.
