Yeah exactly. This is a subsidy for onshoring, which means building facilities, training staff, etc. so at best this turns around to profit in a couple of years so these companies are going to have bad reports while they're spending for startup.

Realistically there was no reason to subsidize this. Most of this offshoring of semiconductors could have been halted with minor tarrifs, and I'm talking like a 1% tarrif would have eaten all the profits of offshoring.

People like Musk want to brag about the work ethic of the Chinese. Okay. 30% rejection rate for quality control is work ethic? In those six 12 hour days they're doing the same work as people doing five 10 hour days... except they're not because that's still a whole shit ton of waste that has to be paid for and recouped. Almost like 40 hour weeks were figured out to be the most efficient by industry titans who focused on efficiency and affordability.
