I identified with the Democratic Party for what I regarded as its populism: It was the party of Jefferson, Jackson, FDR, and Kennedy. The party of the people, the working class.

Agreed. This was why my parents were dems and also what got me.

I can hardly talk with some of my uncles anymore as they are obliviously in denial over what the Democrat party has become and talk like they're mentally stuck in the '90s ignoring how much it has changed.
