As a woman, I can tell you that many women are just not right in the head. I blame artificial hormones in birth control as well as anti-depressants. I have a lot of friends who have gotten more unhinged over the years and something they all have in common are that they take a variety of meds for anxiety and depression as well as monthly birth control. I say this because for about a year in the early 2000s, I took birth control and it made me a different person, so I never took it again.
