Back in January 2021 when stuff was going down, I remember reading rumours (so ... anyway) that Pence resigned after the 6th. That would free up Trump to make an interim appointment as the Senate was between sessions as well.

There was also some stuff about Clarence Thomas being with Trump on AF1 that weekend as well.

But nothing verified, just speculation on how anything is possible unless you know, and the folks who know aren't telling yet.

I personally like the theory that Trump will be back, but as 19th president of the Old Republic before the election of 1872 was done under the USA Corp, leaving the USA without a president since then. The publicity about him talking to state legislators was getting a quorum from enough states to appoint him as president, given that both houses of congress were already defunct by then, too. But I'm afraid that's speculation, too.
