I thought this mess had to do with the fact that she was supposed to be escorted by US fighter jets, and that is what China was really throwing a fit over. No fighter jets, no issue.

China won't shoot down Pelosi. However with a fighter escort considering Taiwan/China, I can see them actually doing it. They'd consider it an act of war.
