Much like the mutation of a virus, you can't predict these sort of things. There is evidence in the geologic record of pole reversal, and of the crust turning 90 degrees. Anyone who claims to know WHEN it may occur has a hand in trying to make it happen.
It's about the crust of the Earth slipping over the molten core, causing total destruction, and a movement of the poles to the equator.

And another thought is, right now, the ECD is labeled as pseudoscience. So, whence cometh the hiding of a hypothesis, that may or may not manifest?
