Yes, this was a concocted sales pitch, by Big Pharma. People tell me all the time they have a "chemical imbalance", and that is why they are depressed. I say: What makes you think so? No answer, of course. I would like to point out, yet again, that our bodies make AT LEAST 200 different neurotransmitters, and some scientists say the number should be around 700! So, hundreds of neurotransmitter are being created every minute of every day, because this iwhat runs our bodies and minds. Now, armed with this information, do you really think that upping the dose of ONE neurotransmitter is going to fix your mood problem? If so, you are actually crazy!! I don't use that word, except in jest. Let's just say you are woefully misinformed. Since humans don't have the ability to balance neurotransmitters, and only have the ability to screw things up, it's best not to start taking manmade drugs that purport to do this.
What could be better? So many things: Praying to God, eating a nutritionally balanced diet (We DO have this knowledge and ability), maintaining good relationships (counseling helps here) exercising to promote endorphins, and doing things that give you satisfaction and pleasure (You name it!).
Drugs can and do affect the mind, but this is not a good thing. Drugs can take control of your mind, feelings and will, all of which should be under the control of the soul. So drugs are not the answer. Yes, if you experience a horrific event, and are overwhelmed, a bit of a calming agent might be a really short term fix, but it is not recommended for a long term solution, since ALL psych drugs, if taken long enough, can cause dementia. So. that is the long and short of it. No psych drugs!!
