WRONG! Religion can be found everywhere in the founding documents, the founding fathers encouraged it. Our documents say the government can not "establish" a religion, it says nothing about practicing one.
This is Fundamentalist propaganda made obvious by the fact you misquoted the First Amendment:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an ESTABLISHMENT of religion nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
Yes, you can be a parishioner and still serve in government, however you are held to a higher standard in that your religious devotion will not dictate how you operate in government.
Marriage, for example is a RELIGIOUS practice. It has no business being in government whatsoever. If churches want to marry cars and horses, that is between them and their diety. Government has no business dictating a religious tradition one way or another.
Our founding documents were based on staunch individualism and the right to live your life how you choose. Nowhere does the Constitution reference the Bible or any religious text. And for VERY good reason. We are not a theocracy and until Jesus returns, we never will be.
Church has no business determining policy of individuals. Neither do special interest groups, corporations or any one person. We need to neuter the Federal government and RESTORE the Constitution. Anything else is just creating a loophole for more tyranny.
Lol. It most certainly IS about keeping church out of state. Inquisition, anyone?
Religion should rule no one. Choosing to follow a faith is a personal choice. Anything beyond that is violating the consent of the individual.
