The radiation isn't that bad. It's not like sticking your head in a microwave. It's just "beyond safe limits," which change all the time depending on how likely you are to get sued and who's in charge.
Aside from that, I think our real tech is far beyond what they suggest, so it's all smoke and mirrors anyways.
